Due to severe budget cuts over fifteen years ago, Pacifica School District middle schools were forced to eliminate their music programs. Fortunately for our district, home-grown celebrity Rob Schneider never forgot how Ortega's band program sparked his creativity and instilled a lifelong love of music. In 1997, Rob single-handedly resurrected music education in PSD middle schools, as well as grade levels 6-8 in the K-8 magnet schools. He formed the Rob Schneider Music Foundation, a nonprofit organization created to offer students in grades 6 through 8 an instrumental music program. In addition to utilizing generous annual contributions from Rob Schneider personally, the Rob Schneider Music Foundation raises money to hire music teachers, purchase instrumental musical instruments and subsidize music scholarships.

As the Foundation becomes increasingly established and well-funded, Rob's desire is to expand his music program to the lower elementary grades as well. PSD remains committed to its partnership with the Rob Schneider Music Foundation and looks forward to the program's expansion. The district recognizes that music and arts education play a vital role in improving the academic achievement and self-esteem of children--not to mention providing children the soul-stirring joy of playing a musical instrument.

A recent Stanford University study confirmed that students who take music and arts courses score consistently higher on SAT tests than those who do not receive such instruction. The community as a whole benefits when its children are more well-rounded, better disciplined and appreciative of the arts.
